We have had a busy two days. Yesterday we spent a good part of the day at the Heard Museum in Phoenix. It is an extensive collection of Native American artifacts. There was info on each of the 21 federally recognized tribes. Also a large exhibit on the Indian schools and the history of how children were taken from their homes, transported many miles (2000 in some cases) and then taught to be like the Caucasians who were so superior. A very moving exhibit explaining a very sad part of our history.
Last night we went out for dinner. A nice treat after preparing all meals at the condo. This morning was for swimming and relaxing.
This afternoon we toured Taliesin West - Frank Lloyd Wright's home in Scottsdale. This was his home for six months out of the year from 1936 through his death in 1959. Interesting tour .... the few pictures below will help give you a feel for his work. Some are of the outside of the home, one is a living room and one is his bedroom. His school of architecture is located here also - accepts 30 students each year. The students spend half of the year here and the other half in Wisconsin.
Dinner tonight, packed to leave at 9 am and then I went swimming for a bit. It is lovely swimming at night. No one is in the pool but me!
Tomorrow we drop Art off at the airport and pick up Claire and Ken. Then we head north to Flagstaff with a few sightseeing stops along the way! It will be great to have them join us. Looking forward to Sunday when Faith and Adam arrive!
Good night from Arizona!

Today we....
Went to the town dump, poked around in some shops, saw a horse made from motorcycle parts and then found another dirt road to explore that led us to a conservation ranch with 50 horses, donkeys and mules, had oven baked burritos for dinner (yummy) and then played the card game Rook.
And these old folks thought this would be a boring trip!
PS: Iver and I won Rook.

Monday was an interesting day! We drove the Apache Trail. Sounds easy enough... actually was quite an adventure. We left Scottsdale at 9 am and arrived at the beginning of the trail at 10 am. The trail is 48 miles long and consists of 8 miles or so of paved road, 22 miles of unpaved road and then a bit of highway to get back. The entire time we were high in the mountains, winding up and down the sides of each mountain. There were no guardrails and 8 miles of the dirt road was only one lane. Mother and Iver were very surprised by the adventure! We did see a spot in the road where a car had gone over the side and as we made our way down the mountain we could see the car half way down the mountain. In fact, he was towing a boat and the boat is half way down the mountain also. We saw the Roosevelt Dam at the end of our mountain tour! It took 7 hours to drive the 48 miles! We left the house at 9 and returned home at 7 pm! (We did stop at the store briefly on the way home). What a day!
Today Mother and I swam for an hour and half. Great exercise! Now we are relaxing until after lunch. Then off to explore a few shops and the Scottsdale area.
I am adding photos now. Had to resize them because my image size is so high each one is taking forever to upload. Hopefully they will come out okay. Bear with me... there is a learning process going on here!

We arrived!
Sunday was a beautiful day in Scottsdale! We spent most of the day at Desert Botanical Gardens. Plenty of walking and picture taking going on! Rented an electric scooter for Joan/Mom/Grandma that kept her smiling all day! She drove several miles and enjoyed being able to stop when she wanted to.
Went grocery shopping on the way home. Now we should be all set to eat most meals at our condo for the rest of the week.
Hope you enjoy the pictures! Hope I actually can pull this blog set up off!
